Consecrating the Circle

Once you have set up the ritual space, all of the participants may drum together, or the ahanad drums alone, in order to call in the helper spirits to bring power to the work that is about to be done. This drumming is done according to what feels right and can be long or short. The most important purpose of the drumming is to bring the collective attention of all of the participants into sharp focus so that intention can be directed as a group.

You can instruct the participants in the meaning of the clean tent, that this place will be cleansed by the spirits of all negative thoughts and influences. Tell them to visualize that the sound of the drumming is driving away all bad things that may have come with them into the circle. In the first part of the ritual, the ahanad does not normally wear his ritual clothing; the ritual clothing should be placed nearby, outside of the circle, so that the ahanad can put it on later.
